We're told a suspect has been arrested in connection with the suspicious death. An arrest warrant for murder was issued for 28-year-old Shawn Paul Pinson.
"It could be four or five or more days before we receive autopsy results and get more answers," Cpl. Steve LeSueur, with the Odessa Police Department, said.
Police and Fire Rescue officials first responded to a call in reference to a possible missing person Friday around 9 p.m. and entered the Hilltop residence after noticing a lingering odor.
They discovered a body upon entry but were unable to determine the gender or age of the deceased person, due to the condition of the body.
Officers notified homicide detectives and the Ector County Medical Examiner's Office. The body will be taken to Tarrant County for an autopsy.
Homicide detectives worked through the night, setting up a mobile crime lab outside the house and spending hours collecting evidence. They interviewed neighbors and remained on the scene through Saturday night.
"All we know is we have a deceased person," Sgt. Ricky Smith, said. "We're just trying to put the pieces together and figure out what happened."
NewsWest 9 spoke with a man who lives next door to the house where the body was found. He wished to remain anonymous but described his neighbors at 2821 Hilltop Drive as a young man and woman in their early 20's.
"They moved here about six months ago," he said. "I think they're renting. They got all kinds of friends coming over. Eight friends that come over on a regular basis, [probably] every day."
Police were not able to confirm if the two people believed to be living there have any connection to this case.
Pinson was already behind bars at the Ector County Detention Center on unrelated charges.
