Arrest Made Following Deadly Motorcycle Accident in Odessa

ODESSA – One person has been arrested following a motorcycle accident Saturday morning in Odessa.

The accident happened in the 6800 block of East Highway 80 just after 10 a.m.

Police were called to the location in reference to a hit and run accident.

An investigation revealed that a 1998 Suzuki motorcycle, being driven by 71-year-old Donovan Renshaw, Jr., was traveling westbound in the outside lane of Highway 80 while a 2004 Chevrolet Suburban made an unsafe lane change and hit the motorcycle.

Renshaw was transported to Medical Center Hospital with life-threatening injuries where he later died.

The driver of the Chevrolet Suburban, 22-year-old Brent Chaffin, fled the scene but was later caught by police.

We're told further investigation revealed that Chaffin was intoxicated on a substance other than alcohol.

Chaffin has been arrested and charged with failure to stop and render aid as well as intoxication manslaughter.

The investigation into the accident continues.
