ODESSA – An Odessa man was arrested on several charges on Wednesday.
29-year-old Joseph Ruben Cervantes was arrested on charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, driving while intoxicated with a prior conviction, possession of marijuana, driving while license suspended and eight outstanding misdemeanor warrants.
On Wednesday, Odessa Police saw a black 2010 Mercedes C300 traveling northbound on East Loop 338 and then turned left onto University at a high rate of speed.
We're told officers activated their radar and confirmed that the vehicle was traveling 75 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone.
Officers pulled the vehicle over and made contact with Cervantes.
According to the report, officers could smell a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath.
Cervantes was taken into custody for DWI after failing field sobriety tests.
An investigation revealed Cervantes had previously been convicted of DWI back in 2013 and a search of the vehicle found marijuana.
