ODESSA – One person is behind bars and another is on the run on charges of injury to a child.
Odessa Police were called out to Dowling Elementary on Wednesday in reference to child abuse.
When the 11-year-old child arrived at school, staff at the school saw bruising all over the child's body.
The student was interviewed by a forensic interviewer and the child stated that this mother and stepfather whipped him all over his body with a belt.
The child's mother was identified as 40-year-old Korekia Lewis and the step-father was identified as 43-year-old Corey Coleman.
We're told police obtained warrants for both Lewis and Coleman.
Police say Lewis was arrested on Thursday night just before 6 p.m. and taken to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center while Coleman remains at large.
