MIDLAND - Pulling a knife on a homeless person and threatening them got a Midland man locked up.

Police say 54-year-old Clarence Roper was riding a bicycle when the owner of a car wash company and a homeless man started arguing.

Roper got involved, and according to the affidavit, he got upset and began to swing at the homeless man.

He threw the bike at the man, pulled out a knife and started going towards him.

The report says an employee came out and that's when Roper took off.

Officers spotted him a short time later.

Roper claimed to use the bike to block the man's punches and that he pulled the knife out in self-defense.
