WINKLER COUNTY - Books aren't being returned to the Kermit library. Now, the sheriff's office is getting involved.
The sheriff says the librarian asked commissioners for money to replace books that haven't been returned.
It was a large amount so that caught the attention of the sheriff's office.
You could face up to a $100 fine for each missing book.
The sheriff tells NewsWest 9, they just want to get the word out right now and hope people will return books.
We're told they will step in and look at peoples' accounts at the library if they have to.
If you have a large number of books that haven't been returned, you could be facing a hefty fine or even some jail time.
