ODESSA - As thousands of people make their way to the Basin for the Oil Show, Odessa Police are working hard to prevent crime from happening at the Ector County Coliseum.

"In order to make sure everything goes smoothly, we bring several officers out to work the show," Eddie Reed, Captain with the Odessa Police Department, said.

Reed said Odessa Police have been preparing for weeks for the Oil Show. Thousands of people from not only across the country but across the world are expected to be in the Permian Basin for the event..

"We have guys out here 24 hours," Reed said.

Police are planning for everything to go smoothly but one of the main things police are looking out for is theft.

"We just to make sure that everyone is safe. That we don't have anything that will be stolen or walks off," Reed said.

Officials are even keeping an eye out for sex crimes like prostitution.

"We do have a number of officers that are out here on the grounds and if we should see anything going on, then we would take action on that. As far as that kind of activity going on out here on the coliseum grounds, we would put a stop to it," Reed said.

With so many people heading to the coliseum to enjoy themselves, police are just asking for a little cooperation.

"There are so many people, you have to be patient and just wait. Don't get in a hurry," Reed said.
