HOBBS, N.M. – A Hobbs man was killed in an accident involving a bicycle on Saturday morning.
The accident happened on State Road 18, near mile marker 47 around 11:30 a.m.
New Mexico State Police tell NewsWest 9, a vehicle was traveling northbound on State Road 18 when he struck a bicyclist.
According to the report, the bicyclist, 54-year-old James Matthews of Hobbs, was attempting to cross the highway when he failed to yield to oncoming traffic and was struck.
Matthews was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials say alcohol or drugs were not a contributing factor and a toxicology report is being conducted in Albuquerque.
The accident remains under investigation.
