MIDLAND: It was a somber day in Midland on Tuesday. Midland County Sgt. Mike Naylor was laid to rest. Hundreds attended his funeral to say their final goodbyes.

It was clear Tuesday morning that Sergeant Naylor was loved by so many people and made an impact on so many lives.

Naylor's long time friend, Dennis Morris, and Midland County Sheriff Gary Painter spoke at the funeral service. Both men talked about what a great officer Mike Naylor was.

"Mike was passionate about his job. He loved his job. He loved being a police officer, he loved being a deputy sheriff. He was an all American, apple pie, God bless law enforcement kind of guy," Morris said.

"He was a professional. He was a professional at what he did, what he loved and with his family. He had morals. He had the ability to stand up and handle anything," Painter said.

This is the first time a Midland County officer has been killed on the job. It's clear that he will be more than missed.

"A man that is willing to lay his life for his nation, for his city, and his county, is one heck of a good guy," Painter said.

"That pride sense of duty and being a part of all of us is probably what led him to be there on location last Thursday. Because it was what he was suppose to do, to be there and help his officers in anyway that he could. He wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere else," Morris said.

Naylor was laid to rest in Hobbs, New Mexico on Thursday afternoon in Hobbs, New Mexico.
