Odessa Police Department Press Release

Odessa Police have arrested Bobbie Joe Knight, date of birth 12/10/1967 and Joanna Hernandez, date of birth 12/31/1986, each for three counts of Endangering a Child “State Jail Felony”. Both subjects were arrested late last night and transported to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center.

On 10-1-14, Odessa Police responded to Medical Center Hospital in reference to child abuse. Upon arrival, medical personnel advised an 8-month old male had been brought to the MCH Emergency Room by his mother, identified as Joanna Hernandez.

Medical personnel reported the infant had sustained bug bites throughout his entire body and advised the “mite” bites caused the infant to develop Scabies and run a high fever.

Detectives proceeded to the 800 block of West 25th Street, which was the residence of the infant and his mother. Upon arrival, detectives made contact with the grandmother of the infant, identified as Bobbie Joe Knight.

Detectives observed insects of all sorts scurrying about the living room along with cat feces throughout the residence. In one of the bedrooms, detectives observed two children asleep in their beds. Their bedroom was also covered in insects and cat feces.

The two children were identified as a 6-year-old male and a 9-year-old female. Both children had some insect bites on their bodies. Detectives also observed the play-pin that the infant slept in to be covered in insects.

Based on the facts and circumstances presented during the investigation, detectives obtained three warrants each for Bobby Knight and Joanna Hernandez.
