MIDLAND COUNTY - We're learning new details about the death of Midland County Deputy Mike Naylor.
He was shot and killed last week while serving a warrant.
It all started Thursday afternoon around 2 p.m.
Deputies got word that 37-year-old Dan Higgins, who was wanted for aggravated sexual assault of a child, was in his home on North County Road 1247 and was armed and dangerous.
When authorities got to the home, they tried to get Higgins to come out.
According to the report, he refused so deputies broke out a window and that's when Higgins made contact with authorities but still didn't give up.
The two continued talking and that's when Sergeant Naylor tried to get Higgins to come out himself.
Suddenly, a shot was fired striking Naylor right in the head.
The report says deputies immediately pulled him to safety and more gunfire was exchanged.
Naylor was rushed to the hospital and officials say he never regained consciousness.
He died a little after 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon.
As for Higgins, he holed himself up in his home for a little bit longer but eventually surrendered around 5:30 p.m.
He has been officially charged with capital murder and is being held in the Midland County Jail on a $2.5 million bond.
