MIDLAND - It was another hard day for the Midland County Sheriff's Office as they retrieved the U.S. Honor Flag in memory of Sergeant Mike Naylor.

"Today we're here to receive a national flag that flew over 911 when President Bush was making his announcement," Midland County Sheriff, Gary Painter, said.

"Today we are receiving the flag in honor of Sergeant Naylor," Midland Police Officer, Loren Frost, said.

The somber event Monday afternoon comes after Naylor was shot and killed in the line of duty last Thursday.

"It's one of the hardest things that we have ever had happen. He was with us for 13 years and has done an excellent job. Every place he's been he has excelled," Painter said.

The flag will be guarded by members of the Sheriff's Office overnight and will be present during Naylor's funeral Tuesday morning.

"Why would something like this happen? There is only one person that can answer that. Hopefully, we'll hear it in court. I don't know," Painter said.

Those who knew Sergeant Naylor are still trying to cope with the reality that they lost not only a good officer but a good friend.

"It has been an honor for me to be his Sheriff and for him to be in Midland County," Painter said.

"He loved it and you can tell we loved him," Frost said.
