ECTOR COUNTY - Long-time Ector County Commissioner, Freddie Gardner, is being remembered.

County officials paid tribute to the Precinct 1 Commissioner.

They passed a resolution honoring the service of Gardner.

His wife was also given a flag that was flown over the state's capitol.

Gardner was battling cancer for a year before he passed.

He was 76-years-old.

"Commissioner Gardner was probably one of the most level headed and honest men I've ever known. That came out through his work. Every decision he made was very well justified, didn't ever lost his cool, never lost his temper. He was a mentor to me, he was almost a father figure to me,” Ector County Judge, Susan Redford, said.

Judge Redford tells NewsWest 9, she's in the process of hiring a new commissioner.
