Deputy Dies in Midland Shooting

UPDATE (6:11) Midland Sheriff Gary Painter has confirmed that Mike Naylor has died.

UPDATE (6:01): NewsWest 9 has confirmed that the suspect taken into custody in the shooting of the Midland County Sheriff's Deputy is 37 year-old Dan Williams Higgins.

UPDATE (5:50) The suspect in the shooting of Sgt. Mike Naylor has been apprehended. He is now in custody. The latest information is coming up on our 6:00 news cast.

UPDATE (5:21) Officials have confirmed the identity of the Midland Sheriff's Deputy shot today. Mike Naylor is a long time deputy with the department and had been serving as a senior agent in the Mental Health Unit. He is in critical condition.

UPDATE (5:08) Midland Memorial Hospital has taken the ER off lock down. We are continuing to gather information, and will release any confirmed information we get from officials.

(UPDATE 3:35) Suspect is still barricaded inside the building. Officers are attempting negotiation with him at this time.

UPDATE: (3:20 P.M.) According to Chief Deputy Ed Crevitz, they were executing a search warrant around 2:00 for a child sexual predator. A deputy was shot once, at the same time another deputy had breathing difficulties and is also at the hospital getting treatment. Suspect is in the process of being arrested right now. The deputy who has not been identified was shot once, it's unclear where he was shot. The deputy is in critical condition and it doesn't look good. 

UPDATE: (3:06 P.M.) We have a statement from hospital officials at Midland Memorial Hospital. There is a gunshot victim who is in critical condition at this time. The emergency Department is on lock down because of the critical patient but there is no other information at this time.

UPDATE: We are trying to verify source information that a Midland County Sheriff's Deputy has been shot. Kim Powell is on her way to the scene and Anum Valliani is heading to the hospital. We will have team coverage throughout our broadcasts this afternoon and evening.
