HOWARD COUNTY - A Howard County man was arrested Monday for assaulting his family.

36-year-old Steven Dwayne Rich was arrested on several assault counts after Howard County Sheriff's Department deputies were called out to a residence in the 5100 block of Midway Road around 4 p.m. Monday. There had been reports of a child screaming for help.

According to Chief Deputy Dean Restelli, deputies arrived on the scene and found a female adult injured. The woman had been injured in the abdomen, allegedly by a knife held by the suspect.

There were several children also present during the domestic disturbance, but none of them were reported seriously injured, although the report shows the suspect's charges include injury to a child.

One official says the child had been grabbed during the incident.

The condition of the adult female injured with the knife is unknown.

No other injuries reported.

Steven Dwayne Rich was charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon Causing Serious Bodily Injury, Assault of a Family Member and Injury to a Child.
