Hobbs Police Department Press Release
On Thursday, October 2nd at 5:39pm, Officers from the Hobbs Police Department responded to the Family Dollar store located at 923 East Bender in reference to an armed robbery that had just occurred. Callers stated that a black male had entered the store, demanded money from the store clerk, fired shots into the ceiling and then fled the store. Officers searched the area and were unable to locate the suspect. .
On Friday, October 3rd at 11:45am, Officers responded to the Family Dollar store located at 410 East Marland in reference to an armed robbery. Callers relayed that a black male had entered the store, demanded money from the store clerk, fired shots into the ceiling and fled the scene in a silver four door sedan.
Officers located the silver four door sedan in the area, the driver fled in the vehicle and was pursued by officers. The driver fled into Gaines County, Texas where the passenger jumped from the vehicle and was immediately apprehended by Hobbs police officers. The passenger was identified as 37 year old Carl Berry. The driver of the sedan pulled to the side of the road and was also apprehended. He was identified as 31 year old Ronald Darby of Hobbs.
Hobbs Police have obtained an arrest warrant for Berry who was the suspect who entered the two stores for two counts of Armed Robbery (2nd Degree Felony), Assault with Intent to Commit a Violent Felony (3rd Degree Felony) and two counts of Tampering with Evidence (3rd Degree Felony). Darby is facing a charge of Aggravated Fleeing a Law Enforcement Officer (4th Degree Felony).
The two men are being held in Seminole, Texas and may be facing additional charges there.
