MIDLAND - Some Midland students got a taste of patriotism on Tuesday.

Students at Burnett Elementary held a "Star Spangle Salute."

It was all in tribute to the 200 year anniversary of the national anthem, "The Star Spangled Banner."

Kids learned about the importance of the National Anthem and the American Flag.

"We use our flag to fly in front of public buildings. We drape the coffins of the men and women who died in battle with our flag. We treat it respectfully and it's a symbol of freedom and liberty around the world. It's important that these young men and women who are growing up understand its value, understand its importance and learning the words to the Star Spangled Banner. All those good patriotic things being taught really well here at Burnett Elementary," U.S. Congressman, Mike Conaway, said.

Members of the Midland High School Band and ROTC were also in attendance to welcome Congressman Conaway and Midland Mayor, Jerry Morales.
