Hobbs Man Killed in Motorcycle Crash

Lea County - One man is dead following a crash in Hobbs.

Officers from the New Mexico State Police responded to the accident involving a motorcycle and a train on New Mexico State Road 18 and Monument Road. This happened around 10 Monday night.

According to authorities, 50-year-old Dedward L. Huerta was traveling eastbound on Monument Road when he failed to see the train going southbound. It appeared that he attempted to avoid the train by laying the motorcycle down on its right side.

He was unsuccessful in stopping and was hit by the train. It is unknown right now if alcohol and or drugs was a contributing factor. A toxicology report is being conducted by the Office of Medical Examiner in a Albuquerque.
