ODESSA – One man was arrested on aggravated assault charges following a disturbance on Saturday.
Officers were called out to the 9100 block of Andrews Highway in reference to a family disturbance around 6:30 p.m.
On the way to the scene, officers were informed that a Hispanic male was beating a Hispanic female and that the female was outside of the apartment crying with her clothes ripped off.
When officers arrived on the scene, they made contact with the victim who told them she went to her apartment to get an item and could hear the subject hiding in the coat closet behind the front door.
The subject was later identified as 55-year-old Gerald Eugene Rodriguez.
The victim stated that as she saw Rodriguez step out of the closet, she tried to leave her apartment in fear of being assaulted but Rodriguez pulled the victim back into the apartment as she was yelling at a nearby neighbor for help.
Once inside the apartment, the victim said that Rodriguez locked the door, grabbed a large butcher knife and said that he was going to kill the victim.
We're told that Rodriguez began choking the victim and received several cuts on her chest during the incident.
Officers later caught up with Rodriguez after leaving the apartment before officers got there.
Rodriguez has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (family violence).
