JEFF DAVIS COUNTY – A woman injured on McElory Mountain has been rescued and taken to the hospital for her injuries.

The Fort Davis Volunteer Fire Department tells NewsWest 9, they received a call around 10 a.m. Sunday to assist a woman with a broken ankle on McElory Mountain.

Officials say they were unable to get their ATV's up the mountain and contacted Ropes and Rescue to get a team to the woman.

However, due to weather conditions, they were unable to send a helicopter to rescue the woman.

We're told that due to the weather conditions, a team camped overnight with the woman at a landing zone.

A DPS helicopter assisted in the effort to get the woman off the mountain.

The woman will be taken to the hospital by Balmorhea EMS.

We're told half of the responders have been airlifted off the mountain and the other half are hiking out.

Officials expect all responders to be off the mountain by late Monday afternoon.
