Hobbs Man Killed in Car-Pedestrian Accident

HOBBS, N.M. – A Hobbs man was killed in a car-pedestrian accident on Monday in Hobbs.

The accident happened at the intersection of Turner Street and Park Street around 7:30 p.m.

Hobbs Police tell NewsWest 9, a 2003 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Davis Shubert, was traveling southbound on Turner at Park in the inside lane.

A pedestrian, Alfredo Ramirez, was standing in the middle of Turner Street when he stepped into the southbound lane of travel and was hit by the pickup.

Ramirez was transported to Lea Regional Medical Center where he later died.

Officials say witness statements and evidence lead investigators to believe that Ramirez may have been under the influence of intoxicants.

We're told no charges have been filed in connection with the accident.
