ODESSA – One man is facing charges for endangering a child.
Officers were called out to the 900 block of South Grant on Friday in reference to a check welfare.
As officers were heading to the scene, they learned that there was an unattended child in a vehicle.
When officers arrived, they found a man slumped over behind the wheel.
We're told the vehicle wasn't running but was still in reverse and the brake/reverse lights were on.
Officials say after several attempts to wake the driver, 35-year-old Hector Marquez Cruz eventually woke up. We're told that he had bloodshot glassy eyes, slurred speech and was unsteady on his feet.
The child in the vehicle, who was three years old, had no shoes and was wearing a soiled diaper that was soaking through his outer clothing.
Officials also noted that the child could have gotten out of the vehicle as the doors to the vehicle were unlocked and one of the windows to the vehicle was rolled down.
Officers determined that Cruz was intoxicated to the point that he was a danger to himself and others.
Cruz was arrested on charges of endangering a child and public intoxication.
We're told that Child Protective Services was contacted and the three year old was released to his mother.
