BIG SPRING - The rezoning of a large area of land south of Big Spring is one step closer to becoming a reality.
The City Council approved the first reading of the measure at their meeting on Tuesday.
It involves about 29 acres of land west of Highway 87, close to the Comanche Trail Lake.
If it's approved, the land will be used for a development that would include hotels, apartments and a restaurant.
The rezoning ordinance was approved after officials discussed several topics that could have an effect on neighboring residences and businesses, such as traffic and lighting.
