ECTOR COUNTY - An Ector County ISD Elementary School sheltered in place for about an hour on Wednesday.
ECISD officials tell NewsWest 9, a man who was fleeing from Odessa Police towards Zavala Elementary caused the school to shelter in place.
The school remained under shelter in place for about an hour.
According to ECISD officials, shelter in place is a precaution taken when there is something happening in the neighborhood around a school that could potentially affect the school. In a shelter in place, all students who are outside are brought inside the building and the front entrance is locked and monitored. Inside the school, classes and activities go on as normal. It is very different from a lockdown, which is an emergency response to a situation at the school.
