HOBBS, N.M. - A Hobbs woman was arrested on burglary charges last week.
Hobbs Police were called out to a home in the 1100 block of North Yucca in reference to an unwanted person last Tuesday.
The homeowner told police that they left for church and returned a few hours later to find a woman looking out a window on the front door.
The homeowner then called police.
When officers arrived on the scene, they spoke with 20-year-old Leandra Barka.
Officers noted that Barka seemed confused and she stated that she didn't know where she was. Barka told police that an elderly woman asked her to housesit the home and was shown where a spare key was.
The homeowner told police he had no idea who Barka was.
After police and the homeowner searched the home, they found drawers that were open that shouldn't have been and items in places where they shouldn't have been.
After being placed in custody and the homeowner found nothing stolen, Barka again told police that an elderly woman asked her to housesit the home.
When asked where the elderly woman was that asked her to housesit the home was, Barka said she didn't know where she came from or where she went.
Barka has been charged with residential burglary.
