SAN ANTONIO (AP) - San Antonio police say a man accused in the weekend shooting of his girlfriend's 6-year-old son and her 11-year-old daughter has been captured.
Thirty-nine-year-old Joe Ramos Mercado of San Antonio was being held Wednesday on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury.
Police say the siblings were wounded on Saturday while they were in a car with their mother as the two adults argued. Mercado told reporters after his arrest Tuesday that he was trying to shoot the car, not the children.
Officials say both children are expected to survive. Their mother wasn't hurt.
Mercado is being held in the Bexar (bayr) County jail on $210,000 bond. Online jail records didn't indicate an attorney for him.
