Fort Stockton Police Warning Residents About New Telephone Scam Targeting the Elderly

Fort Stockton Police Press Release

The Fort Stockton Police Department has received reports of a telephone scam targeting the elderly.

The caller claims to be a Police Officer and then goes on to state that the victim has missed jury duty and must now pay fines for not attending. The caller then gives specific instructions on how to pay the "fines".

The victim is specifically asked to purchase prepaid reloadable MasterCards from Walmart and then is asked to give the sixteen digit number and phone number on each card. The caller also claims that the victim is to report for jury duty on the following day.

This is a scam. The District Clerk's Office and County Attorney's Office do not collect payment over the phone nor will they request you purchase any type of credit/debit card. We ask you to please contact them first to verify this before releasing any information. We also encourage you to report the incident to your local Police Department immediately.
