ODESSA: You've probably been asked before to donate to the Children's Miracle Network but you might not know how far your dollar is really going.
"What we do is we raise money to give back to pediatrics in the NICU," Bridgette Meyers, Executive Director of the Medical Center System Foundation, said.
All of the money raised stays right here in the Basin to help local babies.
"One of the many things that we support is a giraffe bed. It cost about $35,000- $40,000 for just one bed," Meyers said.
Veronica Estrada is a mother who knows about the Children's Miracle Network all too well. Veronica had her twins at just 29 weeks back in June.
"It was a scare. A very big scare because you don't know what to expect them being so small and still trying to develop," Estrada said.
Thanks to the advanced equipment at Medical Center Hospital that was donated through the Children's Miracle Network, Veronica's babies are growing and getting healthier each day.
"The donations to this hospital have done a lot and I have had all my children here," Estrada said.
Veronica is a cashier at Walmart and has asked customers to donate before. But until her recent experience with the Children's Miracle Network she never truly understood the life changing impact just one dollar could make.
"Children's Miracle Network has made a difference. I never knew that it would make a difference like this," Estrada said.
Our sister radio station La Ley 104.7 FM is hosting their annual radiothon Thursday and Friday. It's all to raise money for the Children's Miracle Network here locally. The radiothon will be held from 6 a.m. - 6 p.m. on both days. Money will go the childrens department at Medical Center Hospital and Big Spring Hospital.
Last year La Ley raised over $100,000. Any amount given is appreciated and there will be many different packages to choose from.
