Alleged Big Spring Carjacker Shot Dead, Victim Arrested for Murder


On the 9th of August 2014 at approximately 8:20PM, Big Spring Police Department Officers and Howard County Sheriffs Office Deputies were dispatched in the area of 704 W. Interstate 20 (TA Truck Stop) in reference to a stolen vehicle.

Howard County Sheriffs Office Dispatch received a 911 call from James Ketch W/M DOB 8/22/89 who advised his mother's vehicle had just been stolen from the TA Truck Stop.

Ketch informed Dispatch that he was following the vehicle westbound on the North Service Road of I.H. 20 from the Truck Stop. Ketch then informed Dispatch the vehicle had turned North on Hwy 176 (Andrews Highway) and speeds were reaching 105 mph. It was found the vehicle had come to a stop approximately 1 mile north of County Road 2599 on Hwy 176.

The driver of the stolen truck (identified as Bobby Gene Bricker W/M DOB 3/30/72) was shot by Ketch. Upon Big Spring Police Department, Howard County Sheriffs Office and Emergency Medical Services arrival Bricker was found to be deceased and later pronounced by Justice of the Peace Bennie Green.

Based upon the investigation and available evidence, investigators determined the shooting was not justified by Ketch.

Ketch was taken into custody and later charged with Murder.

Bricker was a resident of Big Spring and Ketch is not a local resident and was passing through Big Spring at the time of this incident.
