BIG SPRING - Some big items were discussed at Tuesday night's Big Spring City Council meeting.

One of those items included the budget for the 2014-2015 fiscal year which begins in October.

Some of the highlights of the proposed budget includes a two percent pay raise for city employees.

It also proposes a six percent water customer rate increase to help with the increased costs to the city from Colorado River Municipal Water District for delivery.

Also on the agenda was the city landfill.

They discussed closing the current landfill and opening a new east cell to last five years and then opening a new landfill northeast of the city by 2021.

Part of those costs would be covered by a proposed 23 percent increase in sanitation rates for residents.
