KERMIT-  An old city warehouse is getting a new more eco-friendly use for the city of Kermit.

Gloria Saenz is the Kermit City Manager and she says this new recycling center is allowing the city to clean up and save money.

"The recycling center is all part of our Reclaim Kermit project. We're trying to clean up the town, get new business in here and get housing here. It's helping us cost wise and we're doing a good thing for the environment. The citizens are excited about it, just as much as we are," Saenz said.

Thousands of pounds of trash are taken to the landfill everyday and recyclables will reduce the loads.

"We take between 30 and 40 pounds of trash to the landfill every day. So this here is a big, big help," Saenz said.

Saenz wanted to let the residents of Kermit know that this new center is ready for use.

"We take plastic number one and number two. Cardboard, aluminum cans and paper. All of the citizens of Kermit can come here and dispose of their recyclable items and know that you're doing a good thing," Saenz said.

Construction is expected to be done in just a few short months. Until then, people can drop off recyclables while construction is still going on.
