ODESSA - Music students at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin now have an app to help them with class.

Dan Keast, the Associate Professor of Music, developed an app for his students.

They use the app in his Jazz-Pop-and-Rock online course.

The app is called UTPB Blue Songs and it's free.

With the app, students can learn things like how to write a blues song using the right chord progression.

It can only record the students' voice but keast says the next app he's working on will have video.

"The next one is also going to include a video component. So that we can verify who is actually doing the assignment, is it that student in particular and that will be a great thing to prove that the student is the real student doing the course," Keast said.

Right now, the app is only for the iPad.

We're told an iPhone app is in the works.
