LEA COUNTY – A Lovington man was killed following an accident in Lea County last week.
The accident happened on Lea County Road 2 last Monday around 8:15 a.m.
New Mexico State Police tell NewsWest 9, a 2002 Freightliner, driven by 46-year-old Gabriel Leyva, was traveling southbound. While driving, Leyva encountered a left hand curve and failed to negotiate the curve and drove off the roadway.
We’re told that once the vehicle was driven off the roadway that the weight in the tanker shifted, causing the vehicle to roll over.
Leyva was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials say alcohol was not a contributing factor.
