Friday night's big MLB trade affected the Midland Rockhounds. Shortstop Addison Russell, who had recently returned from injury, was shipped to the Chicago Cubs organization in a deal that sent Jason Hammel and Jeff Semardzija to Oakland. The A's organization acquired several other players in the deal. the A's also sent Billy McKinney, and a player to be named later to Chicago in the deal.
Russell was hitting .333, with 1 home run and 8 rbis with the Rockhounds this season.
