New Law Banning Texting While Driving Takes Effect in New Mexico

NEW MEXICO - A new law banning texting while driving took effect on Tuesday in New Mexico.

The law prohibits drivers from sending or reading text messages and e-mails and this even applies while at a stop light.

Searching the internet from any type of hand held devices will also be included in the law.

A first violation will result in a $25 fine.

After that violators will see a $50 fine.

Calling for medical or emergency aid is the only exception to the New Mexico law.
