ARTESIA, N.M. – An investigation and search for some trailer thieves is underway in Artesia.

On Sunday, the Eddy County Sheriff's office received a report about a stolen trailer around 2:15 a.m.

After the report was taken the victims of the theft drove around the area of Lake Road looking for the stolen trailer.

While driving in the area, the victims did locate the pickup, started pursuing it and fired a shot in the air near the intersection of Lake Road and Four Dinkus in hopes of stopping the suspects.

After two more shots were fired, the vehicles continued onto 13th Street and Fairgrounds, headed north on 26th Street and west on Main Street.

The victims told police that once the vehicles were on Main Street, the suspects fired shots in the direction of the victims striking the vehicle.

Both of the victims were struck and taken to Artesia General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The pickup left the scene.

No further information about the truck was given and an investigation is ongoing by the Eddy County Sheriff's Office Detectives Division.
