ECTOR COUNTY - Three people were injured after an accident in Ector County on Saturday.
The accident happened at the intersection of U.S. Highway 385 and West Yukon.
DPS Troopers tell NewsWest 9, a volunteer fire vehicle was traveling northbound on Highway 385 approaching the intersection. The vehicle was responding to a fire with lights and sirens activated.
As the vehicle got to the intersection, we’re told the traffic light was red for the vehicle, slowed down and saw that traffic was stopped on Yukon going east and west and continued to cross the intersection.
That’s when a Toyota Tundra driving eastbound on Yukon was crossing the intersection as the emergency vehicle was crossing and that’s when the two vehicles collided.
A witness told police that the Tundra did have a green light at the time the volunteer fire vehicle was attempting to cross the intersection.
Two people inside the volunteer fire vehicle, 38-year-old Clifford Morgan and 46-year-old Della Reeves were taken to Medical Center Hospital, along with the driver of the Toyota Tundra, 24-year-old Joseph Gerdine-Knighten.
The investigation into the accident is ongoing at this time and no further information was released.
