ODESSA - Medical Center Hospital held the first of their monthly farmer's markets on Saturday morning.
Not many hospitals around the U.S. host farmers markets and this is all to set a healthy example for our community.
The event had nothing but healthy foods, arts and crafts, cooking demonstrations, live music, free blood sugar screenings and even served educational purposes to promote a healthy lifestyle.
Ector County ranks 201 out of 232 counties on good health.
"Odessa happens to be one of the unhealthiest cities in the state. So by having a farmer's market that has produce, fruit and education on how to eat healthier, that's why we're doing this," Patricia Garcia, Director of Volunteer Services and Community Relations Coordinator at Medical Center Hospital, said.
The Odessa Texas Farmers Market will be held from 9 a.m. until noon the second Saturday of each month from June through October.
