PUERTO RICO – An Odessa High School graduate died during a family vacation in Puerto Rico.
According to the Puerto Rico Newspaper, El Nuevo Dia, 18-year-old Yasmeen Bursiaga died during a drowning at a hotel on La Concha Beach around 6:40 p.m. Monday night.
The newspaper reported that Bursiaga received first aid from some nurses that had just graduated and were on the beach at the time of the drowning.
Bursiaga died on her way to the hospital.
In a post on Bursiaga's Facebook page, "Yesterday (Monday), at around 6 o clock, a beautiful girl lost her life. She was so happy and knowing her for 17 years, I could say that she was selfless and caring and wonderful and mattered to so many people. This doesn't even feel real. But my Yasmeen is now my angel. More now than ever before. I know she's smiling at me and all those who love her and will never forget her. It would be impossible to forget such a beautiful girl. I can only ask anyone who was close to her, people she'd only spoken to a few times, or even those who would only see her in the hallway at school, pray for her and our family in the time of grief and sorrow. She was so young. She had just graduated. She was too amazing. Too beautiful. So again I please beg for you to think of my angel Yasmeen. I know that nothing will ever be the same without you. I love you so much and always will. My cousin, sister, and best friend. Rest in peace."
According to her Facebook page, she worked at Rosa's Café.
