MIDLAND - A press conference was held on Wednesday to raise awareness for elderly abuse.
St. Joseph's Home Health and Adult Protective Services teamed up to host the 5th Annual Elder Abuse Conference at Midland College.
The purpose of the conference was to educate the public and raise awareness of the needs of an elderly person who finds themselves in abusive or self-neglect situations.
An administrator from St. Joseph's tells NewsWest 9, she hopes people will have the courage to let their voice be heard.
"Speak up. Don't let abuse happen. Because one day, we will all reach that age and we need to be protected. Don't be afraid to stand up and speak up," Delma Chavez, Administrator at St. Joseph’s Home Health, said.
Several speakers from Adult Protective Services, law enforcement and medical systems were also in attendance.
