BIG SPRING - The Big Spring City Council approved more than $500,000 to spend on an engineering firm to plan a new landfill.
At Tuesday night's meeting, they chose Parkhill, Smith and Cooper for the development of the project.
The city recently purchased about 250 acres of land just northeast of the city.
Once completed, the new landfill is expected to last the city about 150 years.
Officials say the current landfill on FM 700 is running out of space.
But before the new one is completed, they have to add space at the current one, using adjacent land.
