ODESSA - An Odessa teen was sent to the hospital after a small explosion.

Ector County deputies were called out the 5400 block of West 40th Street.

That's where they found a 13-year-old boy with injuries to his arms, stomach and torso.

His father told deputies, the boy found what he described as a black tubular pipe with a screw on top.

It was the size of a small fire extinguisher with a pull pin on top.

Apparently, the boy kicked it.

He then walked over to it when it blew up.

There's no word on where the object came from.

Deputies also called it a "flash bang."

The boy was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
