MIDLAND- The Midland County Sheriffs Department is is mourning the loss of one of their own.
"He was one of the best all around officers you could ever find," Sheriff Gary Painter, Midland County Sheriff, said.
On Thursday night, the Midland County Sheriff's Office received heartbreaking news. One of their own had died. Corporal David Glenn was riding with two other motorcyclists on a highway in Utah when the cars in front of him stopped unexpectedly and that's when tragedy struck. Glenn hit a pick up truck which sent him into oncoming traffic. He was hit by an SUV. He lost his life at the scene. A fellow deputy who witnessed it all called Sheriff Painter.
"Another deputy was with him on the motorcycle trip and I got a call from him about 30 to 45 minutes after the accident. He explained what happened. He was distraught. He gave me the information so that I could go contact David's wife and family. It was a very hard thing to do," Painter said.
Glenn first got his start in law enforcement as a police officer in Midland. But in 2006, just 30 days after he retired from the Midland Police Department, he started working at the sheriffs department.
"Everything that he did in law enforcement, he was superb. He excelled at it. He was a good officer," Painter said.
One thing is for sure, Corporal David Glenn will be more than missed.
"He was a cops, cop. He was a street officer deluxe. This is a loss. A tremendous loss for the sheriffs department," Painter said.
The Midland Sheriffs Department will have a memorial service for Corporal David Glenn. No word yet on funeral arrangements.
