Arrest Made in Connection With Animal Cruelty Case

MIDLAND – An arrest has been made in connection with an animal cruelty case NewsWest 9 reported on Tuesday night.

Midland Police tell NewsWest 9, 29-year-old Derik Alan Huskey was arrested on one charge of cruelty to an animal by killing or causing serious bodily injury to an animal.

As NewsWest 9 reported on Tuesday, Midland Police and Animal Control were called out to the Leisure Estates Apartments after a dog was unburied from a shallow grave.

Neighbors told NewsWest 9 that the pitbull was stabbed multiple times before being buried.

Residents say they were outside as the dog was being killed by Huskey, even kids witnessed the attack.

Huskey told police the reason for killing the pitbull was self-defense.

Bond for Huskey has been set at $100,000.
