The City of Midland is doing its part to control the mosquito population this summer and asks that citizens take precautions to help eliminate these unwanted pests.
City staff fog for mosquitoes early in the morning, when wind is at a minimum. They also put larvicide pellets in standing water to prevent mosquito larvae from maturing.
Citizens are asked to assist in the control of mosquitoes by following a few simple tips:
In addition, citizens should use insect repellents that contain DEET and avoid mosquito bites by wearing long, loose and light-colored clothing outside during dusk and dawn hours.
It usually takes 10 days following a plentiful rain for mosquito larvae to develop into mosquitoes.
Citizens can call the Health Department at 432-681-7613 to file a complaint about mosquitoes in their neighborhood.
