GREENWOOD - Many high school seniors are getting ready to walk the stage this weekend and prepare for their next steps in life, but one local teen seems to already have it all figured out.
18-year-old Jared Salas is not your typical teen. For the past year, he's rented out his own recording studio where he writes and creates original songs. In case you were wondering, you can purchase some of his music on iTunes. When it comes to his lyrics, well, it's not your usual rap song.

"It's all inspirational or just whatever is on our mind, but we like to keep it inspirational and we keep it clean so the kids can listen," Greenwood High School graduate, Jared Salas, said.

On Friday night, Jared will walk the stage and receive his high school diploma from Greenwood High School. Salas said he plans to continue his education at Midland College but hopes to further his music career.

"I want to just keep speaking and keep making music. That's all I want to do," Salas said.

Right now, Salas travels with some of the the Harlem Globetrotters as a part of Teen Truth. He performs his inspirational songs at schools and you can even catch him at different Six Flags locations this summer.

"My plan is to just do that long enough until I can get on my own two feet and start my own business," Salas said.

Jared also said he hopes to get signed with a record company one day, but for now, he's excited to get his diploma.
