ODESSA-  One Odessa neighborhood fell victim to a car burglar early Monday morning. 14 cars were broken into and over half of them were on one street.

"Over the past weekend, we had a string of auto burglaries in the area of Everglade and Grandview, " Corporal Steve LeSueur, with the Odessa Police Department, said.

However,Odessa Police said the thief didn't have to try that hard.

"Out of all 14 vehicles, most of them were left unlocked and unattended," LeSueur said.

Some of the victims tell NewsWest 9, they woke up to open car doors, paper scattered everywhere and valuable items like jewelry and tools gone.
"We want to remind the public to lock the doors in your vehicles. That's what thieves look for first. If possible, have an alarm. Try to get an alarm for your vehicle," LeSueur said.

Odessa Police also want to remind everyone to hide their valuables and park in well lit areas if possible. Right now, no one has been arrested for the crime but police do have a lead.

"The suspect is described as a young male subject, medium height, wearing dark clothing. We want to remind everyone if you see any suspicious people in your neighborhood or any suspicious activity to call police right away," LeSueur said.

If you have any information about who could be responsible for the car burglaries, you're asked to call Odessa Police or Crime Stoppers at 432-333-TIPS.
