The accident happened at the intersection of East Loop 250 and Interstate 20, just after 12 p.m.
DPS Officials tell NewsWest 9, a dump truck was traveling southbound on East Loop 250 and a semi-trailer was stopped on the north service road of Interstate 20.
According to officials, the semi-trailer driver didn’t see anyone coming at the intersection, crossed the roadway then felt a hit from the back of the trailer.
We’re told the dump truck burst into flames and the dump truck driver, 46-year-old David Bailey, was killed.
Officials say the semi-truck driver tried to get the dump truck driver out but was unable to do so.
Midland City Manager, Courtney Sharp, released the following statement to NewsWest 9 about Bailey's death, "Every fatal accident is a tragedy, and this one hits especially close to home. David is remembered as a dependable, hard-working employee who was always high-spirited, and he will be greatly missed by his fellow co-workers and colleagues. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family during this difficult time."
