ODESSA - An Odessa man had a pretty detailed plan to rip off the Payless on 8th Street but didn't expect to be caught on camera.

Susan Rogers, with Odessa Crime Stoppers, said the man actually set the store alarm off, on purpose.

"While the employees are dealing with the alarm being set off, he grabs their purses and goes to the front of the store," she said.

There, in plain sight, the man waltzed out, purses in hand. But that's not the end of it.

"One of the employees' keys are in the purse. Of course, he chirps that, sees where the car is and steals that as well," Rogers explained.

The stolen car was recovered last weekend but police say the crook drove it around for about a month and they hope someone will remember seeing him.

"2004 white Nissan Altima, with a picture of a turtle on the back drivers side window. If you saw someone driving around in that, that's who we're looking for," she said.

Rogers explained that even though the car was recovered, the suspect could still be in the hot seat.

"The theft is a big thing but the stolen vehicle is a bigger issue he's going have to deal with. Even though the car was recovered, they can still file on him for that," she said.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Odessa Crime Stoppers at (432) 333-TIPS. If your tip leads to an arrest, you could land some cash.
