MIDLAND - The Midland Police Department is doing what they can to keep women safe.

Officials tell NewsWest 9, there were concerns over a white van with tan stripes on the side following female runners and cyclists in the Grassland Estates area.

We were told that two Hispanic males in their 20's to 30's were trying to lure women into the van.

The department is planning on patrolling the neighborhood to keep an eye out for any suspicious vehicles or activities.

But that's not all they are doing, they are also offering a special program for woman.

“It's called RAD. It's Rape Aggression Defense and that allows women to learn both offensive and defensive positions to be able to protect themselves and to know when they need to utilize either of those positions,” City of Midland Public Information Officer, Sara Higgins, said.

The classes run from nine to 12 hours long with eight to ten students in each class.

The students will have the opportunity to try out the moves against a simulated attacker.

For more information on the classes, contact John Kerrigan at 685-7964.
